Covidence: Getting Started

A guide to using Covidence, a screening and data extraction tool for conducting systematic and other reviews.

About Covidence

Covidence is a systematic review tool that aids with review management and collaboration. You can upload references from most databases including EBSCOhost databases, Embase, OVID Medline, ProQuest databases, PubMed, and Web of Science. Covidence is also useful for other types of reviews such as scoping, rapid, umbrella, and general literature reviews.

Creating an Account

Request Access

You can create your personal sign-in information with Covidence before or after joining the institutional subscription. To request access to the institutional account in Covidence, you must use your current UNR Med or UNR email address (@med.unr.edu or @unr.edu or @nevada.unr.edu).

  1. Go to this Request an Account page on the Covidence site.
  2. Enter your information (using your @med.unr.edu or @unr.edu or @nevada.unr.edu email address) and click “Request Invitation” link.
  3. Accept the invitation in your email.
  4. Log in to your existing Covidence account or sign up for a new account.

Creating a review using the UNR unlimited license

After clicking the link “Create new review” you will have the option to use your personal account license or select the UNR Med account. After you create a review in Covidence, you can invite others to join your project by clicking on the Invite another reviewer button. If they do not have a Covidence account already, they will be prompted to create one. However, external reviewers will only be able to access this specific UNR Med review unless they have been invited to others by you or another UNR Med user. This is a screenshot of the Settings page within in a Covidence review project. Use the "Invite another reviewer" button to invite others to join your review.

Reviews created under the institutional license will be visible to the Covidence administrators at the Savitt Medical Library and the Knowledge Center. Your personal account review(s) will only be seen by you.
