About Canvas

Canvas is the software that runs behind the scenes to power WebCampus. Canvas allows instructors to deliver materials to students 24-hours a day, 7-days a week and is used to as a platform for everything from the course syllabus to online quizzes and a tally of semester grades.

Canvas Training Available Now

Canvas training has started with training sessions on the various aspects of Canvas offered nearly regularly.

Why Canvas?

UNR selected Canvas to replace Blackboard as the technology that drives WebCampus starting in summer 2016. In spring 2015, the Provost appointed a committee comprised of faculty, students and administration to evaluate the existing Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), and compare it with other available options. The committee solicited feedback through open sessions and demos offered in Spring 2015. The feedback received from faculty and students overwhelmingly indicated Canvas as the preferred option. In Fall 2015, we received approval through the Provost’s office to move forward with Canvas.
