Books By Nevadans and About Nevada
Members of the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame and recipients of the Silver Pen Award have contributed to the history of the book in many ways. Sarah Winnemucca was the first Native American woman to have a book published in the USA. Idah Meacham Strobridge was an award-winning book binder who founded the Artemisia Bindery in Los Angeles, California. Virginia Coffman was on the forefront of the gothic mystery boom in the 1960s and 1970s, with an international following. Many of the authors have collaborated with the University's Black Rock Press to create limited edition artists' books. Ellen Hopkins has specialized in free form verse fiction for young adults.
